Purefect Desktop and The Future of Web Applications

What is Purefect Desktop anyway? Purefect is a desktop environment that run 100% on your web browser without the need to install any plug-ins. Purefect appearance is very similar to an Operating System.

To over simplify, Purefect is a "web-based Operating System" that can be used to run various applications. But Purefect is not an Operating System.

In order to use Purefect, you have to login to your web-based desktop first. Then, you can choose and run applications the same way you run applications on your desktop. You can change Purefect background (wallpaper), browse files (using file explorer), send e-mails (using e-mail client), read RSS (using RSS reader), and the list goes on.

You can also install other Purefect-based applications downloaded from the internet. Or, if you want, you can build your own Purefect applications (calculator, spreadsheet, text editor, minesweeper, etc) using Saltanera Kambium (IDE for Purefect applications).

Purefect will revolutionize the way we use and develop web applications. Using Purefect, web applications no longer consists of pages.

This surely provides a new opportunity for deploying PHP applications. Thank you for sharing the information and getting us all excited about it :-)

Needless to say, Purefect will become a more prominent player in the online desktop market as more applications become available for the Purefect desktop. It seems that Kambium will play a crucial role in the development of Purefect applications.

I have three simple questions at this early stage of Purefect's introduction:

1) What browsers will definitely be supported by Purefect?

2) Will general PHP5 hosting providers be able to host the Purefect desktop environment - or rather, what are the required hosting specifications for Purefect at this stage of its development?

3) Will we be able to easily develop Purefect applications without using Kambium (the old-school way), or will Kambium greatly simplify the development of Purefect applications by providing automatic integration with the Purefect API?

Sorry about all the questions - I like to plan ahead and keep things in mind for future reference.

One of our main goals is to make Purefect run on (at least) 3 web browsers: Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari.

Yes. Klorofil is attempting to bring Purefect to the masses by making the software can be installed easily on most PHP5 server provided by hosting providers.

Yes, you can develop Purefect applications using a simple text editor. Kambium is an optional development tool. Kambium offers many features that greatly ease the development of Purefect applications.
